Dr Patricio Reyes, MD

Dr. Patricio F. Reyes is a board-certified neurologist and neuropathologist in Phoenix, Arizona. He also serves as the chief medical officer of the Retired NFL Players Association, chief technology officer of Premier Biochemical company, and consultant to Revive Rehabilitation Center.

He started his medical career as acting chief of Neurology at the Audie Murphy VA Hospital, Assistant Professor of Neurology of the University of Texas in San Antonio, Texas, and a teaching faculty of Neurology at the USAF Wilford Hall. He established one of the first established clinics and brain banks for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia and pioneered the rapid brain autopsy system that harvests fresh brain tissue. He later joined the Thomas Jefferson College as assistant professor of Neurology and Neuropathology, and chief of Neuropathology, Brain Bank and Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia Center. He rose from the ranks to become Professor of Neurology and Neuropathology and Bernard Alpers Professor of Neuropathology. At Jefferson Medical College, he was one of the principal investigators that helped developed Tacrine, the first USFDA approved drug for Alzheimer’s disease and described the clinical, anatomical, and neuropathological features olfactory deficits in Alzheimer’s disease. He and his colleagues reported one of the rare forms of genetically linked Creutzfeldt Jakob disease. For several years, he was a member of the NIA study section and at one point a consultant to the FDA. He then moved to Omaha, Nebraska where he was Professor of Neurology, Pathology and Psychiatry at Creighton University School of Medicine. He founded Creighton’s Center for Alzheimer’s disease and Neurodegenerative Disorders and Brain Bank, and continued his work on other neuropharmacological agents for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias such as Rivastigmine. He subsequently joined Barrow Neurological Institute of Phoenix, Arizona as Director and Karsten Solheim Professor of Cognitive Disorders. While at Barrow, he led the American contingent that conducted the pivotal international clinical trial, which led to the FDA approval of Rivastigmine skin patch, the only transdermal patch available for Alzheimer’s Disease.

Dr. Reyes has been a recipient of several medical, scientific and civic organization awards such as US Best Physician, American Academy of Neurology’s Palatucci Leadership, 2000 Outstanding Scientists of the 21st Century, and Physician of the day of the Arizona Legislature to name a few. He has received research grants from the NIH, VA, Foundations and grateful patients. He has lectured all over the world and has been a visiting professor of the University of Santo Tomas, University of the Philippines, Peking Medical and shanghai Medical Schools, National University of South Korea, Zeged University of Hungary, University of Indonesia, Egypt’s University of Alexandria, Guatemala’s Marroquin University, Pavlov’s Institute in St. Petersburg, All India Medical School in New Delhi and Jaypur Medical School in India.
