Multi-Axis Rotational Device (GyroStim)
Our multi-axis rotational device, called the GyroStim, utilizes the otolithic and vestibular systems to stimulate and strengthen projections throughout the brain. By utilizing a controlled directional spin in our multi-axis rotational device, we can activate specific regions of the brain in order to affect a variety of different disorders.
Vestibular therapy is a very powerful tool in the world of neurological rehabilitation, as shown through the therapeutic use of the GyroStim.
What Is Rotational Therapy
When we look at brain development, we see that movement drives brain growth, and one of the most important areas for sensing movement is the vestibular system. When we utilize rotational therapy in a GyroStim to activate the vestibular system, we see an increase in activation in several cortical regions.
Rotational Therapy Benefits
Many of our TBI and concussion patients arrive at our clinic with an under-functioning vestibular system, causing issues such as vertigo, dizziness, poor balance, irregular gait, and chronic fatigue. Our vestibular diagnostics (via computerized posturography) reveal the specific components of the vestibular system that have been most affected by the brain injury, and thus inform our treatment plans for each patient.
We consistently see a complete mitigation of these symptoms after just a few sessions in the rotational device, allowing our patients to restore their equilibrium and balance while reducing the symptoms of vertigo and dizziness.
Conditions That Can Benefit From Rotational Therapy
At lower levels of motion intensity, the multi-axis rotational device is used by those recovering from physical and cognitive dysfunction as a result of:
– TBI
– Concussion / Post Concussion Syndrome (PCS)
– Stroke
– PTSD
– Neurodegenerative Disorders
At higher levels of intensity, rotational therapy is used by active individuals, athletes, and others with fast-paced, demanding, high-stress lifestyles to maintain and enhance peak performance.
